This weekend weather reminds us what March and early Spring is all about. The unseasonably warm weather of late has already done its damage, and the overwintered green crops like Kale and Collard Green, are trying to go to seed, thinking it's time to go! Fortunately, the nursery temperatures are pretty stable and the coming replacements should assure an uninterrupted supply.
Our incoming MSU intern, Analyssia, came out Friday for a brief orientation and some pictures, but the weather was not agreeable to the planned overview. We mostly stayed in the nursery planting Ginger and Turmeric, and then some microgreens. Overall it was a good meeting and she and Eva, our main labor coordinator, got to know each other! Ana will be taking over for Jessie, our Friend and intern from last Summer.
I am also very excited to introduce Brooklyn, our new social media and marketing coordinator! "Brook" is very talented and will accompany our staff on our Weekly Farm Scouting tours, taking pictures and notes. You'll know it is Brook when you see our online posts put to music. Her hard work will help people that are looking for chemical free food year round find us here at Hillcrest Farms!
This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:00. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up, and Saturday I am at the Flour Child Bakery parking lot in Grand Ledge, 11:00-12:00 noon. Saturday afternoons are for pre-scheduled home deliveries. Please let me know if I can help! Thank you,
