Farm Happenings for June 23, 2022

Posted on June 19th, 2022 by Emily Tzeng

Welcome to Week 4! Looks like its finally starting to warm up this season! The 10 day forecast is looking quite promising and we are beginning to plant crops for fall and winter. However, after the coldest, rainiest, most challenging spring in my memory, we will need to delay the flower CSA by a week. So, please look forward to flowers starting NEXT week. Thanks for sticking with us!

Veggies of note this week:

Kohlrabi! This unusual, alien like veggie is a member of the cabbage family. It tastes like a sweet broccoli stem? Peel these well and trim up the bottom to remove all of the stringy tough parts. I like julienning these and serving them raw with a dressing or eat them with hummus or your dip of choice.

Summer Squash/Zucchini! These are finally starting to produce, about 3 weeks later than we had them last year. Just a few to start this week, more very soon!

Basil! We are just starting to pick the first planting, so more will be available soon.

CREW INTRODUCTIONS

I can't run the farm on my own and we have a great crew with us this year. I hope you enjoy getting to know the humans behind your food this season!

This is my first year farming and I am loving it. My favorite vegetable is broccolini because it is so delicious both cooked and raw.
My favorite thing about farming is watching the crops grow. I've been gardening all my life, but it never stops being magical when the seeds germinate.
In my free time I am learning to weave baskets out of Himalayan Blackberry bark.
