Welcome to Week 11! It's another hot week, but the crew pushed through to finish our last big planting push of the season! The previous heat wave delayed our fall planting a little, so this bit of hot weather is appreciated to help these plant grow! I can already feel the days getting shorter and it rained very briefly last Thursday?! Our next big project is getting all of our fall root veggies weeded and to start harvesting onions and shallots! All of our flowers are ripe and we will start braiding garlic soon, so keep a look out if you want a garlic braid this year.
Veggies of note:
Last of the spring planted radicchio! Soon, our summer and fall crops will be in, but there will be a brief break in our radicchio supply. Make sure you get one (or multiple) this week if you want some!
New Potatoes! I love growing and eating potatoes and these are the best potatoes of the year! The skins are still tender and there is a subtle sweetness that older potatoes don't have. Perfect boiled with good butter, herbs, and flakey salt. I like to boil them, drain, and then lay out of a clean tea towel to absorb excess moisture before returning to the pot or bowl to toss with butter.
Speaking of roots, we finally have some nice carrots! Our first three rounds were decimated by wireworm and weeds, but this round looks so lovely. Great tops, perfect for carrot top pesto?
We are hitting peak tomato season, so peak panzanella season at our house!
