Sometimes farming feels like managing a 90 sided Rubik's Cube. When you consider the planning and execution of simultaneous crop rotation, succession planting, harvesting, washing, packing, deliveries, weeding, crew management, communications, and the list goes on.... we often get swept away with the seemingly endless to-do list, and then by a stroke of providence, we're snapped back to the present moment by an unexpected gift.
While harvesting bunch after bunch of parsley this morning, I was bewildered by the sight of this baby gossamer nest hidden in the bed. This awe-inspiring moment beckoned me to then notice what else was present in that moment- the gentle breeze on my skin, the rich scent of earth, and the sweet lull of loon song in the distance. I was reminded of the words of Lao Tzu, the founder of Taoism, "Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." With a smile and a deep inhale, I resumed the harvest and knew all was well.
