Greetings,
January turns soon to February and we have arrived at the final delivery of the season. I'd like to again thank Justin and Kara for their work all season, and especially this winter. They have been responsible for most of the greens harvesting and washing of veggies for winter shares.
If you read the email I sent last week, you now know that we have decided not to offer summer CSA shares in 2022. If you missed and can't find that email, we also posted it to our blog. It's a bittersweet moment for us. We welcome a growing season with a bit less intensity and management complexity, but will undoubtedly miss the connection to our members. We are still considering offering fall shares and winter shares, so we will pass along an update when we have it.
Thanks for going on this ride with us - it has meant so much to have your support, whether you've been with us since last fall or for the last six years.
Dana
Notes on select items in this week's share:
- Tetsukabuto winter squash: Similar to last week, but this week we are offering them in small or large fruit sizes.
- Garlic: Just a small amount available - a little larger in bulb size than last week's.
- Shallots: These mild and sweet cousins of onions are good candidates for consuming raw. Use as more of a seasoning than a base vegetable like yellow onions.
- Orange Carrots: We are doubling the bag weight this week compared to our standard carrot pack. We have plenty available, so this is the time to stock up! Also offered as extras in 5-lb bags.
- Purple Carrots: A few lucky members will receive these dark purple delights. Standard (smaller) bag sizes for these.
- Sweet Potatoes: This week's sweet potatoes are mostly somewhere between 1sts and 2nds grade. There are some true firsts in the mix, but also some that are a little wonky shaped or have a broken end. They're just as good eating and we've discounted the price to account for the imperfections on some tubers.
- Mixed Baby Kale: A sweet and tender kale mix with various colors and leaf types - limited to just a few lucky members, as our planting was small and experimental for winter production.
- Spinach: Super sweet spinach with a bit more volume per bag compared to last week (but still less than our standard earlier in the season). I suggest enjoying this fresh in a salad.
THANK YOU ALL AND HAVE A GREAT REST OF YOUR WINTER!!
