I remember years ago when I first started gardening I only had a short window of time to get the garden tilled so I did it in the middle of a rainstorm. That's before I realized how damaging it is to soil health to "work" the soil when its too damp. Even driving on soil when its wet can be very damaging.
It was another push to get some cultivation and transplanting done before the next rain event this week. As you will get to know as the season goes on, it is always a challenge to get field work done in the small windows of time between rain. Depending on how hot and windy it is and how much rain we received affects how long it takes for fields to be dry enough to cultivate or to get a tractor in the field for planting. From last week's rain, it took until Tuesday afternoon for it to dry out. And then of course, it rained again Wednesday night. Hopefully we will get a bit of a dry spell so we can catch up on the much needed weeding and soil preparation for more plantings.
Looking forward to having many of you out to the farm on June 22nd.
