Week 3

Posted on May 22nd, 2021 by Ford Waterstrat

Wow! We received a lot of great feedback on a great week of lettuces, strawberries, kales, and spinach! Thank you so much- those kind emails boost everyone's spirits.

This week the strawberries are at their peak and then the harvest amounts will start to slow down. The strawberry season is a short 6-8 week period in KY and with this peak harvest- we've decided to load you up with berries this week... and actually not send you some of the other things that we have ready to harvest. We hope that you enjoy a break from as many greens and enjoy the bounty of strawberries.

We also realize that some folks might be thinking...Gosh there is not that much variety yet. Not to worry- Each week the variety will continue to increase. To get a better idea of what's ahead check out our 2020 Farm Share Weekly Gallery.  Or our Seasonal Offering Guide.  With a lot of fossil fuels and warm greenhouses we could push the envelope on getting you some crops earlier, but we want to grow food for you as sustainably as possible.

The picture is our potato field- We plant these potatoes in Early April and they will take nearly 3 months before they are ready for the first harvest. That's 1/4 of the year! Sweet potatoes can't be planted until June and take 4 months to be ready for harvest!  (however deer will eat them at any time :)

Have a great week!
