Week 8

Crows pulled plant after plant out of the rows of plastic- Arggh... But I think they are finally slowing down-

The big push to get many of fields ready for planting is finally slowing down. As you might recall, we typically start planting the first crops into the fields in March and continue planting almost non stop until the Middle of July. Once the middle of July hits the amount that we plant slows way down and the harvests ramp up! We do continue to plant lettuces, cucumbers, squash, and zuchini until mid August and then some fall radishes, turnips and small things- But the big fields of tomatoes, peppers, winter squash, beans, watermelons, cantaloupe stop about Mid July-

Included in this big push- is nurturing the farms and fields that we are not raising vegetables in the 2022 growing season. We nurture and prepare these fields by "resting and rebuilding them." As organic farmers we strive to build a better ecosystem for our crops each year. One of the biggest compontents of this effort is done by growing "cover crops" that are grown just to build the soil. There's oodles of information on what it means to build healthy soil and I'll spare you the details. Just know that your support of SHF is helping nourish our wonderful part of the world.

And-please also know that your support of SHF allows us to nourish our employees and their families. If you didnt get a chance to meet the SHF Team in the video last week- you can still view it here-

It's Hugo's Birthday Tuesday!

Sincere thanks
