Farm Happenings for July 18, 2024

Posted on July 15th, 2024 by Grady Seale

Its about that time of year where we start planting our winter squash. This year we will be planting butternut, spaghetti, acorn, delicata, and of course, our long island cheese pumpkins. I will also do a few pie pumpkins, and possibly some smaller decorative pumpkins. The heat continues for now but I always look forward to planting winter squash because it means cooler weather is getting closer, haha. I know we still have the rest of July and August to go but any mental relief is good right? With most of the winter squash varieties being 100+/- day crops, we need to get the seeds started soon so we don't risk getting a frost on the plants before they finish producing. Fall tomatoes will also be getting planted soon, and we do have some more summer squash and cucumbers coming, they are just being slow slow with this heat. Stay cool out there!
