We have some shallots ready to harvest, the tops look great and I am excited to add them to my next gumbo, chili, or stew. Once we get the first real cold front, I go into comfort food mode and love to cook up dishes that warm you up! With those dishes, I always top them off with our shallot tops (like green onions) and then I plant the bulbs back in my small herb garden at home. They usually grow back in a few weeks and I always have them on hand if I need them. We are also harvesting our delicata and possibly a few pumpkins this week, everything is looking good going into our first real cold front, lets just hope the frosty stays away for a few more weeks!

About the farm
Covey Rise Farms is located in Husser, LA just north of New Orleans in central Tangipahoa Parish and is part of the Covey Rise Sportsman's Retreat. The farm started growing vegetables on 10 acres in 2009 and has expanded to over 60 acres at present. The farm not only grows multiple varieties of over 30 types of vegetables, but in recent years has added fruit trees and flowers. Our produce is enjoyed at various types of restaurants in New Orleans and surrounding areas, from the finest restaurants to quaint neighborhood cafes and everything in between and by our local produce/CSA members.
