I've decided to hire someone to handle Sunday farm stand and distribution. Is this the smartest financial decision? No, not by a long shot. But I've been working Saturday markets and Sunday farm stand/CSA for close to 5 years now. It was exhausting but manageable until I took on running the entire 30 vendor Dunwoody Farmers Market last year. That was when I had to start putting up boundaries around my Mondays, crashing by 9 on Sunday nights and sleeping 12-14 hours.
This past weekend I caught myself putting the salt shaker in the microwave, completely losing a share and delivering it to an address I'm still not sure of, telling my boyfriend about my plan to drop an item off at a friend's house and then immediately walking out the door without said item and forgetting to lock the trailer after unhitching at the farm, despite leaving the lock on top of my driver's seat to remind myself.
So, next week those of you who pick up in EAV will see me training Ian. It feels weird that I won't see all of you every Sunday, but it also feels like a necessary step as I work to put the farm on a more sustainable footing. Ian is awesome, has been a friend for about 5 years and has worked for the farm a couple times previously. Please welcome him and be patient as he learns the ropes of this role. :)
