There are days when things on the farm feel like one of those long lines of dominos - except instead of every domino falling quickly, it can take days or weeks between each one. But yesterday we knocked down a domino that will let a lot more dominos fall in the coming days - we moved the birds into the new chicken coop!
There's still some details to finish (aren't there always?) but getting the birds moved opens up space for re-doing the roosts in the old coop, clipping wings, setting up true rotational grazing, starting to sow out the species we want in the pasture and ultimately, cutting our feed bill by letting the animals forage for part of their nutrition. This has been a goal for me for years. Having the first domino down feels pretty darn good. :)
