Summer is fast approaching, as the local school districts wrap up their academic year and the fun begins! Our fun at Hillcrest Farms centers on the beginnings of the Summers harvests, as we complete the transplanting needed for Summer's end. It is important to my Farming Goals so we can complete the work soon, so we can transition into cooler weather after Labor Day!
The Sweet Potatoes are finally in the ground, the Strawberry crop is peaking early, and Asparagus is nearly done. The next week or two, we move to Melons, Ginger, Turmeric, Fresh Beans and other warm weather crops. We have already begun the flats for succession plantings of Tomatoes and Peppers. In about 4 weeks we'll start the planting of the first Autumn crops! I'll still crave fresh Cucumbers in September/ October, won't you?!
This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:00. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up. Saturday we are at JC Park on River Street in Grand Ledge, for the market 9:00-1:00, and pre scheduled home deliveries on Saturday afternoon. Wait! Sunday, we are at Valley Court in East Lansing, for the Farmers Market, 10:00-2:00. I hope to see you soon, and Thank you!
