Farm Happenings for July 31, 2024

Housekeeping: I will be working on the last CSA Member sign-up issues tomorrow afternoon, and hope to be back to normal this week. Please let me know if I missed you and you are still having problems!

The next few weeks before Labor Day give us, the "four season" Growers, a bit of a lull before Autumn gets really busy! My Instagram posts show the little Melons growing, the Celery maturing, and the Baby Red Potatoes being dug for taste testing, the end result of a lot of Early Spring effort! But are those cute little bunnies trying to eat your new Kale transplants, too? Are those tiny black Flea Beetles feasting on your Eggplant leaves until the leaves look like so much lace? Oh yes, and the Colorado  Potato Beetles: are they shredding the Potato's plant leaves down to the very stem?! Notice: the Cabbage Moths are back and the powdery Mildew just love these hot, humid weather conditions!

I guess the break is over! I notice the steam rising from the ponds in the cool mornings, time to plant the winter Carrots, the Autumn Lettuce, and transplant the Spring Strawberries. I really love this job!

This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon and the Allen Street Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:00. Thursday is farm pick up, and Saturday we attend the Farmers Market in Grand  Ledge, 9:00-1:00. Scheduled home deliveries are made early Saturday afternoon. I hope to see you soon!
