Farm Happenings for August 14, 2024

Posted on August 11th, 2024 by Mark Kastner
Like life in general, farming is a collection of transitions, and we at Hillcrest Farms just follow the same evolving patterns. I am evaluating some new crop seed trials as we harvest the end product results. I am beginning to flesh out the December seed orders for next year. Who's in and who's out! The Argentine Jalapenos are out, the Netherland Broccoli  is out, and the American low acid yellow Tomato is in!

Personnel changes also take place about now, as we bid a bittersweet farewell to our outstanding Summer Intern, Analyssia. Thank you MSU, for loaning her to us for a short 12 weeks! Meanwhile, Eva is promoted to "Crew Chief", with 3 years of experience on our staff. Eva has been very involved, as we convert six more beds to "no till" production, and start our workdays at 8:00 AM sharp!

This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:00 and the Tomatofest this week. Thursday afternoon  is farm pick up, and Saturday we are in Grand Ledge for the Farmers Market on River Street. I follow up with the East Lansing Farmers Market on Sunday in Valley Court, 10:00 AM-2:00 PM!
Scheduled home deliveries are normally early Saturday afternoon. I hope to see you soon!
