Thank you to everyone who came out to our first Harvest Dinner last night! We had a great time and hope that you enjoyed the food and music.
This fall has been incredibly warm, and it still appears that frost is over a week out, with nighttime lows in the 50s predicted for the week ahead. It's difficult to prepare for winter with such warm temperatures. A mild frost almost seems necessary at this point to kick us farmers into winter gear!
What does winter mean for farmers? We get this question ALL the time.
Shorter, freezing days mean less physical, outdoor work. Less daylight hours DOES mean more rest and sleeping! It feels like winter was made for that anyway, doesn't it? A time to eat warming, nourishing food and relax, a sort-of hibernation. It is certainly a welcome break for us.
We do also spend a lot of time planning for next year, there's plenty of computer work to be done, a seed plan to make, and things to buy: seeds, potting soil, soil amendments, and general supplies of all sorts.

Auto-renew time is coming!
All members who currently have HAVE IT ALL shares OR signed up for ALL THREE individual seasons this year will be eligible for auto-renew for 2022. This means that if you’ve enjoyed the share, you won’t have to worry about signing up again, and you’ll automatically have your share reserved for next season. The payment plan 25/25/50 will be in place, which means when the 2021 season is complete (the week before Thanksgiving) your card will be charged for 25% of the cost of your 2022 CSA share. 25% will then be charged at the beginning of the 2022 season (last week of April) and the remaining 50% will be divided among the remaining weeks of the CSA season. **Be sure to check your card details on the “Payment Methods” tab of your account page to make sure they are correct.**
Here are the steps to TURN OFF Auto-Renew on your Harvie Account:
1. Go to your Dashboard
2. In the right hand corner, select “My Account”
3. Click on the Subscription bar on that page
4. Under “Manage Auto-Renew”, toggle OFF the auto-renew option.
Please let us know if you have any questions about the auto-renew process. We will continue to remind you that it’s coming up in future notes!
Some important updates for 2022...
Delivered Shares
We love our members and we love taking our shares to other locations other than the farm so that more folks can enjoy our produce and other local offerings and support the work of Mad Radish. With rising costs of fuel and labor, we simply cannot keep doing this without a small delivery fee. For the 2022 season we will be adding a small fee to all delivered shares. This fee will be in the realm of $2.50 - $4.00 per MAIN SHARE. The fee WILL NOT CHANGE and will be steady through the entire 2022 season. Add-on shares (that must go with a main vegetable share) like eggs, meat and milk will not incur any additional fees.
- Rousedale Farm will not be a pick up site in 2022, but we hope to find another easily accessible drop site in Fallston.
- We will be changing the Bel Air pick up at Cottondale to another convenient location in Bel Air.
- Kindred Wellness Center will no longer be a pick up site, but again we plan to find another drop site in the Glen Rock area.
If you’re interested in hosting a pick up from your residence or business, or know someone who is, please reach out to us! We’d love to chat more about prospective drop sites.
