We've been enjoying the warm days in between the very cold ones, though it is a bit of tease as winter is still here. This winter has been much more challenging for me than last year, and I think it is because overall it has been much colder, and it feels a bit endless at this point. The cold does have its positives, though, as it helps keep pest pressure down during the season, a welcome benefit for us as farmers. (And anyone who likes spending time outside!)
We have been seeding in the greenhouse which has given some reprieve from the winter blues. We're starting the first herbs, shallots, leeks, broccoli, bok choy, lettuce, kale, chard, scallions and more. It's hard to believe that these flats will become pounds and pounds of food in a few months, but it's always exciting to watch them grow!
A couple notable items on the list this week:
- California grown organic oranges! You can add these on or swap them into your share.
- We are fully stocked with lots of different Chesapeake Gold Farms cheese flavors!
- French Breakfast radishes - organic and locally grown until ours are ready in a couple months...
- Tons of salad greens. Spinach, Lettuce Mix, and Greens Mix are in abundance this week.
