The spring has a way of dragging on as we wait for new crops to come in, and this extremely dry weather isn't helping things. We're irrigating nonstop but our well doesn't have the capacity to keep up with all the beds that currently need watered. The plan for the upcoming week is to purchase the hose needed to irrigate from the stream on the property. If all goes to plan (quite a novel idea, ha!) we'll be able to irrigate more beds at once using the water from the stream and give our well a break.
Summer crop planting continues this week with cucumbers, squash/zucchini, field peppers, and eggplants. All of those things are slated to go in the ground this week (wish us luck). Simultaneously we'll be attempting to get a handle on the weeds in the onions, carrots and potatoes.
SALAD is still at the forefront of my mind with the share this week. We'll have plenty of green and red butterhead, as well as mini romaine. Baby turnips, radishes, and scallions are great salad toppers. Cilantro and dill make an appearance on the list this week, though the lack of rain means they're limited.
Herb plants are still available to swap into your share, though they won't be for much longer. If you're looking for more herbs for your garden or herb planters, now is the time to grab them!
