This is the time of year that the summer squash and zucchini can become quite overwhelming. We attempt to harvest them at a small size, as that's when we think they taste the best, but sometimes they get away from us. This is one of those times, so you'll see an item on the list called "Zucchini Bread Zucchini". Each of these zucchinis are gigantic and perfect for baking into bread or muffins.
Some new items are on the list too, including shishito peppers (limited to start) and beans will be here very soon. If you're not familiar with shishito peppers, they are a favorite and anticipated summer crop. They are small, green, mostly mild peppers (it is said that 1 in 10 is hot) that can be used many ways. The classic way to cook them is blistered in olive oil in a hot cast iron pan with salt. You can also roast them or even pickle them for a yummy charcuterie feature.
As pick ups on the farm become quite hot during the summer months, please note that MEAT and FROZEN ITEMS will be in bags packed with ice packs inside of the gray cooler in the farm stand. Please advise whoever is coming to pick up your share that frozen items are inside this cooler.
