Farm Happenings (#11 DELIVERY SUMMER out of 20)

Posted on August 4th, 2021 by Diane Riehm

Farmer Phil wants us to teach you how to make spaghetti sauce from Heirloom Tomatoes.

He is running a special THIS WEEK-
Flat pack 20# Heirloom Tomatoes - Special Price $40 (regular $100)

Pushing these out the door quick to keep the plants picked off and growing strong to keep producing!

Create Fresh Heirloom Tomato Sauce

  • Get rid of the tomato skins quickly to create a more luxurious sauce by blanching them (3 minute dunk in boiling water and a bath in ice water).
  • If you plan to put the sauce through a food mill when it is cooked, you can skip removing the skin step.
  • Go ahead and let the inside (seeds and juice) be part of the sauce—no need to seed.
  • If you have the opportunity to mix different varieties of tomatoes then you’ll get a blend of different notes of sweetness and acidity.
  • Cook on low with spaghetti spices until thick.

Can you guess what time it is?

Farmers love to repurpose whenever possible and we are already working on our NEXT PROJECT!

SUPER EXCITED about turning our old red shed into a ticket booth/checkout counter for our Barnyard Fun Weekends starting in September.

Our cattle do more than feed you a good meal!

They teach kids like Farmer Phil's son Carter to build life skills with hands-on projects in areas like agriculture at the country fair – helping them to grow confidence, independence, resilience, and compassion.

It was evident to us farmers before the pandemic hit that big corporations currently dominate our food system. America has been losing food producers right and left for several years now.

We almost missed our opportunity to bring one of our sons back to the family farm until C.S.A.'s (Community Supported Agriculture)...

CAME TO THE RESCUE FOR US!!

During and after the pandemic, it finally became crystal clear to many "consumers" how crazy our food systems have gotten
(maybe you've heard the horror stories).

That is why we are beginning to introduce to you our NEW! Fall/Winter Market Box coming soon!

LISTEN to one of the people we are effectively supporting together now and in the future with this new Market Box initiative:

Linda Lambert says, "I am especially appreciative of Riehm Produce Farm selecting Bella Cuisine to provide fresh baked bread. Our relationship with Riehm's has allowed Bella Cuisine to have increased exposure to new markets and customers, build strong relationships and EXPAND our business.

Linda adds, "Riehm Produce has stayed on the edge of new technology that has INCREASED OUR BUSINESS, made shopping a pleasure and provide customization of orders. You can't beat Riehm Produce Farm."

NEW, COMING SOON! We will be introducing an even better version of the CSA for our Fall/Winter shares where you can include bread any week you like without having it as an add-on share.

Warmly,
Farmer Phil, John & Diane Riehm
