CSA Market Box Member Sharon asked a good question...

Sharon said: I read an article which indicated that some producers wash their eggs in chlorine or other things we would prefer not to ingest (as the ingredients in the washing liquid are able to penetrate the egg shell).

I admit this may sound picky, but as things continue to evolve where food is concerned, I am checking everything that I can.

I no longer buy produce from the supermarket since I learned about the “Apeel” that Bill Gates developed and is applied to many veggies and fruits to lengthen their freshness.

Answer we received: Per our egg supplier "WATER AND ONLY WATER" is used in the cleaning process of the eggs.

Lett-uce introduce you to our field...

Your farmers are planting about 12 varieties this year for you.

Some varieties can handle the colder weather better and some varieties handle warmer weather better. Who knew there would be a difference?

New seeds are sown about every-other week to give you a consistent supply along with the current six plantings that are in the ground.

Be sure to keep the damp wet paper towel on the butt end of the lettuce and in a plastic bag so that it stays fresh and edible.

Your LIVER loves Cilantro!

Aim to improve your liver function and maintain your overall health with a few simple tricks that often creates very positive results with cilantro.
  • Put a few springs in your salad.
  • Top off a sandwich with a couple more springs.
  • Place some into your green smoothie.
  • Pulse a bit and include it into your dips, guacamole, salsa or pesto.
  • Add the rest to your rice dish.
  • Top off your fish especially tuna because cilantro contains a substance that binds to toxic metals and carries them out of our body.
By stimulating the liver and increasing bile production, cilantro helps contribute to the overall lowering of bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels protecting your heart too.

Keep the wet paper towel
on the ends to remain fresh

Asparagus for the win!

Often we can find which meat pairs well with which a certain veggie.

It appears that Asparagus pairs with any type of meat!

Look for pork, chicken and beef on your availability this week.

These awesome farm-raised meats together with our homegrown asparagus make a DELICIOUS DINNER!
