Posted on June 29th, 2023 by Diane Riehm

4th of July Holiday is Coming and So Is YOUR BOX...

If you're UNABLE to grab your box, it is IMPERATIVE that you hit the "CONFIRM" AFTER "skipping" (during your customization window) which appears two seconds after hitting skip.

Otherwise the harvest will begin and you will be charged for that box.

GET AHEAD OF THE GAME and make your skips NOW for when you will be Camping, have a Doctor's Appointment, or a Special Event in the future.

THIS IS MUCH EASIER!! "before" your customization window opens

> Login to Harvie.farm
> Select the words "view all deliveries" (in green)
> Skip the date you want
> No confirmation button needed

Farmer Phil's TOP 5 this week!

These LOOK healthy!
* TASTE oh-so good!
* Harvesting PLENTY right NOW!

1. Peas - sugar, snap and snow. These are the kind you just tear the stem off and eat the whole pod. We often eat them raw or cooked with chucks of potatoes.

2. Zucchini/Summer squash - makes an easy side dish with salt, pepper and butter. Or a main dish with sausage, scallions and cherry tomatoes. Make kid-friendly zucchini/summer squash boats. See recipe HERE!

3. Parsley -
has also been shown to act as a natural diuretic, which can increase urination and prevent kidney stone formation and bladder infections.

Luckily, you can just pop entire stems of parsley into a bag to freeze. There's no need to take the leaves off yet. When you're ready to use the parsley, snap off the leaves when you want to use them. Use the stems in your soup base bag later.

4. Strawberry ice cream - made with Riehm's own delicious strawberries!

5. Ground Beef - born and raised right here at Riehm's on 40 acres of pastures and grain finished in our barn.

Overcome Mindset Hurdles...

Our brain wants to be on auto-pilot. Overcome and prepare for this obstacle TODAY!

YOU WILL HIT A WALL when you are regularly starting to cook at home. We know you will eventually SMACK RIGHT UP AGAINST IT.

Habit formation is the key to finding your way to the other side. You do not want to throw things away and feel bad about it, right!?

The set backs are normal. Embrace them and start habits TODAY to lessen the SLAM. You cannot get to where you want to go without your mind wanting to be on the auto-pilot of the past.

Know some habits that will get you to the PROMISE LAND!!

  • Routines for great auto-piloting:
    1. Set a weekly "customization reminder" on your calendar/phone for noon to get to your computer at lunchtime. RUSH OVER to our website at FunAcres.net. Go to the menu bar "CSA Farm Boxes" FAQ page to see the CHART for your day of the week.
    2. Keep your veggies towards the front of your fridge for easy access.
    3. Set a pick-up time reminder on your calendar/phone.
    4. Hang a list on your fridge of the items from your box and cross them off as you use them.
    5. Try a recipe shared by the farm.
    6. Cut up a few veggies from your box as soon as you get home.
    7. Make a double batch and freeze half for busy days. If you family keeps getting into your secret frozen backups then drive them away by only making part of the recipe and plan to add the rest later.
    Examples:
    a) Get your seasoned meat fried and frozen for tacos. Might as well get some shells frozen up too.
    b) Get all your meatloaf ingredients mixed and frozen the add the meat later.
    c) Have your block of cheese frozen and ready for recipes.
    d) Cook several chicken breasts up then cube them and freeze to add to salads or other dishes later.

You will plow right through the hard spots when you take a deep breath and form AUTO-PILOT habits to get you to the PROMISE LAND of eating from your kitchen!
