This week we're gearing up for another bout of hot weather, which we expect to become a lot more frequent now that we're in the month of June. Garlic scapes are on the brink of harvest right now, so you'll see these on the share list this week. if you don't get them in your box and you'd like them, don't worry because they'll be back the following week too. If you're not sure what a garlic scape is, get excited, because they are one of the best spring treats that exist on a vegetable farm. They're a squiggly, curly green thing that you can put in almost anything. I like to chop them up and saute them lightly with greens. You can also throw them in the food processor with olive oil, salt, and whatever nuts or seeds you have on hand for some delicious garlic scape pesto. Put that on pizza or pasta and enjoy the garlicky goodness!
We're having a onion weeding party at the farm this coming Saturday 6/12 from 1 to 5 pm, and would like to invite you to come! We need to free the onions soon of the grass that's threatening to take them over entirely. We could use as many hands as possible for this task, so bring your friends, your kids, your parents, your neighbors...anyone who can pull weeds for a few hours and enjoy some time on the farm. We'll have snacks and drinks for weeders, and anyone who stays for the duration will go home with a MAD RADISH FARM GRILLING BOX which is a one-time offer for this party only! The box will include a mix of veggies, mushrooms, eggs and a sample of our pastured chicken leg quarters!! (1 box per family) Please let us know you plan to attend and how many folks you'll be bringing along.
On the harvest side of things you'll see a couple of items from Medina Mushrooms at Honeymoon Farm, our friends over in Oxford PA. Liz at MM has lots of delicious shiitake mushrooms and also some bunched herbs that we won't have for awhile here as they're just starting to get established. You'll be able to swap these into your share if you'd like.
