As you all know, last year was our first full growing season on this farm in Dover. And though we have big dreams for future perennial crops here, determining what we will grow, and where we will plant it, takes some careful consideration. Last season we planted some perennial herbs in a location that we realized was not going to work long-term. It was too far away from the central hub of the farm, and much too far for members to walk to pick herbs! So we're putting some more thought into this year's planting, with the goals of being centrally located, as well as thoroughly amended and mulched to optimize the success of the herbs.
This means we have a decent chunk of greenhouse table space devoted to these perennial seedlings, like lavender, rosemary, thyme, sage, oregano and others. The rest of the table space is filling up very quickly with other spring crops, like broccoli, lettuce, cabbage, onions, kale, chard...we've been busy planting all the things!
On the chicken side of things we're been working on the brooder space for our chicks, which will be in the bottom of the bank barn. Concrete has been poured and now we're focused on getting the space fully set up before the chicks arrive next Tuesday.
