Now the peas are coming on full force! We'll be picking lots of them this week. Fresh garlic scapes made into pesto and stirred into pasta, with snap peas and parmesan cheese, is one of my favorite things to eat in the spring.
If you've never had garlic scape pesto, I recommend you make it as soon as possible! This recipe has basil leaves, but I don't bother adding those at this point in the season - the garlic scapes are great on their own!
We've had a very challenging time with grass and weeds again this year, so root crops like carrots and beets will be a bit delayed going into the summer. We're hoping to do better this fall, and in the meantime we will supplement from other local farms for the CSA. When we do this, we'll always specify in the item's description, and we will always source organic or organically grown.
