As I write this, rain is coming down steadily, but it doesn't look like it'll be enough to really soak our bone dry soil. The field is SO dry right now that pretty much everything is desperate for a drink. We're irrigating constantly but our system can't keep up with the water demands of everything in the field.
Greens have been very difficult to grow this summer, both due to the dry, hot weather and to the fact that I've been "out" for a few weeks now. We try to have a steady supply of greens all year, but this year there will be a gap until this weather lets up and we can get a good planting in the ground.
While harvesting all the summer crops we're simultaneously trying to get fall crops seeded in the greenhouse and transplanted into the field. It's certainly a busy time of year! We have also been extremely short-staffed and are currently looking for help, which many of you may have already heard. If you know of anyone who might be interested in working at the farm please send us a message.
