I've always had a difficult time with transitions. The shifting of seasons is a huge transition on the farm because our work changes in a short amount of time. We must learn to balance the tasks of the previous season with the tasks of the impending one. During the summer to fall shift, we are still planting while also focusing on cleaning up and preparing for the late fall/winter season. The harvest continues, but it lightens during this time. The season of heavy fruit has passed. We feel the days get a bit shorter and a bit easier, giving us some much needed rest after a long summer season.
This fall we have another big transition coming, and I'm really excited to tell you all about it! We are switching CSA software from Harvie to Local Food Marketplace (LFM). If you have been with us for a couple seasons you know that this was in the works for a little while. This switch will have lots of benefits for you, which I will discuss in detail at a later date. Our 23/24 Winter Share will be through LFM. You'll receive info about the Winter Share late this week, so keep an eye out for that if you're interested in fresh local food all year long!!
A couple notes about this week...we added our chicken broth and Nine Pines/Honeybee Friendly 1 pound honey jars to the main list, so you can swap these into your share if you're full up on summer/fall veggies :)
GREEN TOMATOES are the featured (and highly underrated!) item this week. This is THE season for them, and it's a very short one. This is the time that we take down the tomatoes to make room for cover crops and fall vegetables, so we pluck the green tomatoes off the plants for you all. Everyone thinks of fried green tomatoes, but there are so many options out there! Check out these links if you need some ideas on how to use yours:

As always, thank you for your support of Mad Radish Farm. We are so grateful that you're here!
