Another cold week on the farm. But the greenhouse was still showing a bit of green. Our experiment of growing beans into the fall was doing well...but next year we will fill it earlier so that we get more chances to pick beans before they freeze. This row of beans was seeded after the hailstorm destroyed our beans in the field. They have grown well...flowering now and some beans just reaching pickable size. They did not survive the cold (we had -12) ..but it was a learning experience.
It has been a hard week on the farm this week. Rebecca lost her classmate in an accident on Monday. Our hearts are hurting and we pray for the family that must now miss their daughter and all the friends she leaves behind. (if there were errors in your orders...please forgive her - just let us know and we will get them fixed.) Rebecca bravely carried on ....but her heart was not in it and we do not blame her at all. This comes after Aaron also just lost a classmate in an accident only 3 short months ago... It is hard to understand these ways but we continue to stand by our children and help them as much as we can. It is also a reminder to hug our children just a little tighter and to be thankful for each day we have.
For our bi-weekly members...there are a few new items on the list - Noble Meadows Goat Feta Cheese and Soft Cheese... delicious lettuce from Inspired Greens ...and local honey! These products are grown and produced locally - the goat cheese is from a friend and neighbor and the lettuce is from a hydroponic grower that grows chemical free. The honey comes from our neighbor who rescued a bee swarm on our farm a few years back. We hope you will enjoy those additions to your share boxes this week.
We are adding these products to give everyone more variety in their boxes. The lettuce is part of the share..but the cheese and honey products are available for swapping or adding to your share. We are happy to be able to support local growers and hope you will enjoy their products!
Summer has come to an end and the gardens are finished for the year. This is the last week of the main season and we want to take a moment to thank you all for your support. We have certainly missed seeing many of you each week but we hope that the newsletter bridges the gap between us this year! I have enjoyed watching the crops come in...get packaged and watching the loads go out the door each week. We hope that you have enjoyed the produce this summer and hope to see you all again next year!
There is a short winter season that will continue until Christmas. There are a few shares still available - if you want to continue with local produce into the cold of winter:) We have more winter variety this year than in the past = greenhouse crops, root crops, squash crops, fresh lettuce, cheese products, honey, fresh and frozen fruit... and chicken and eggs. There is a good variety this year.
Thanks again for joining us for the Summer 2020 harvest season and we look forward to seeing you all again in Spring 2021!
