Farm Happenings for April 12, 2021

Posted on April 2nd, 2021 by Tim Vrieselaar

We are Spring Cleaning today!  Yup...it's that time of the year when I want things tidied up and ready for a new season.  Did you think I was talking about my house?? Nah...that's minor ;) I am talking about everything outdoors, garden related.   Yesterday I started cleaning the planting house...and today there are a bunch of kids that are going to help me (actually they don't know that yet....but as soon as breakfast is over....I will share the wonderful news with them!!)

Now I'm not going to say they will be super excited...but I do know my children well enough to know that once we get things started they work hard and have a great sense of accomplishment when they will see it all clean and finished at the end of the day.

We have been making a few changes here this week.  Our seacans that were storage space and planting space got moved...into the middle of the driveway.  But we left space between them this time.  This space is going to get a floor and walls and a roof...and then we will have our new packing house.

We have done lots of growing over the years....and our garage is way too small for the work that gets done in it.  So we are really looking forward to getting that up and organized and ready for the summer.

As well...one of the seacans is going to be converted into a new cooler.  Our current cooler is wearing out very badly and this will give us more space for lots of great veggies this year!

It's fun to see things changing and gearing up for summer!! I am sure you are all curious about the outcome of the greenhouse as well.....that wasn't so pretty.  The plastic did not survive last Sundays' 130k winds.  But we have new plastic ordered and hopefully by the end of next week it will be here.

In the meantime....we are going to start seeding and send the little plants to Chantal to enjoy her greenhouse until ours is ready.

I can't wait to see our greenhouse back up and running and I am totally itching to fill it up and start getting my hands in the dirt.
