Things are settling into the fall routine. Kids are back at school - which means less time for the gardens..but we are keeping up so far. The beans are still growing (no frost yet!!) and the broccoli continues to spoil us with loads of side shoots! Enjoy that broccoli while it lasts - winter will be here soon enough and there's nothing like the taste of fresh broccoli.
I'm sure everyone has had the first taste of corn by now as well. It was a slow start to that crop and we really didn't expect to have it ready before frost - but we are thankful for the pleasant autumn and the chance to share the veggies with you!
Sorry for being delinquent in my newsletter writing. I missed a week - and then the next week I wrote a newsletter and proceeded to somehow delete it at 6am when I tried to send it. And sorry - that was the end of my patience for that morning:( So here we are to try again.
Digging potatoes is a much more rewarding job this year than last!! This week we start on the Alaska bloom.
I am slowly being retired from my delivery duties (guess I need to save my energy for the important delivery that's getting closer) ...I miss my Tuesday trips to Calgary - but as fall arrives the bins to get heavier with produce each week too!!
The one crop that is really starting to come on for fall - is the cherry tomatoes. They look stunning in the greenhouse and there is loads of fruit on the plants. If we can keep them warm enough we should be harvesting those for weeks to come yet. Nathan was super proud to be helping us with this fun job!!
This week is looking to be a busy week - Chantal is sick so we are short staffed - that means that Tim and I will be doing more of the harvest than usual - but it will be like the good old days....."going out" to the gardens! It's what a farmer's wife counts as a date!!!!
Enjoy the lovely weather as fall closes in.
