Now that the air has cleared, we can enjoy some of the finest days of the year on the farm. Yesterday we brought in the winter squash harvest- pie pumpkins, delicata, acorn, kabocha squash are all settled in the barn to cure. In a couple of weeks I'll begin adding them to weekly offerings. Our daughter Cora grew a decorative pumpkin patch this year. By Sunday her collection of carving and display pumpkins will be for sale at the farmstand.
The fall brassica plantings are looking fantastic. The first harvest of green cabbage is ready. Additional cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower will be heading up into good food all fall.
Cucumbers have been cleared from the hoop house. Vines were tired and its time to establish late fall crops in the protected hoops. We planted Napa cabbage, kale, and seeded turnips. This coming week will be the last week for basil. Then we'll clear those beds for another fall planting.
A bit of housekeeping- please take the time to carefully unfold the wax boxes and stack them neatly at your pickup location. Please don't tear the tabs while doing this. We try to get many uses from each non-recyclable box.
Happy eating,
Emily and the farm crew
