Hi Everyone!
I’d like to start off by saying thank you for being CSA members. It means a lot that you are willing to take this leap with us, sign up for “food” and gracefully embrace the seasonal mishmash that shows up in your box. This time of year especially, when it seems like a big job to grow food, I sure do appreciate the fact that you’re already willing to support us with your eating.
That being said, may I recommend the green beans? I like to put up beans for winter, and my fondness for them stems largely from their smell and knowing that when I open a bag for Thanksgiving I’ll be immediately transported to summer eating, fresh garlic, sunscreen, and sweat. Also prime are the fennel bulbs, some of which I roasted with oil, salt, and some chopped kalamata olives and garlic.
On the farm this week we’re playing catch-up on weeding. We can’t help but admire the amaranth and the lamb’s quarters and the grass for how prolific, ambitious, and successful they are. Troublesome in our context, yes, but if only we could feed you a field of bindweed, we’d be good at farming it! Our image this week is a cluster of boutonnieres using exclusively farm flowers… somehow it’s the only farm-related picture I have from this week!
Happy eating,
From Liz and the Whole Farm Crew
