Farm Happenings for September 17, 2018

Brrrrr. They say it's only Fall...but it sure feels like winter!!

The good news is that they pivot is all up!! Not quite ready to go yet (Lots of wiring to finish first).  But it sure has changed the view from our house!  It looks pretty awesome.

The bad news isn't quite so nice...but we will be honest...the gardens are almost empty. And by that we mean really empty!  We have struggled with production all summer.  The spring was cool, the soil was very dry, then came hot weather which the weeds loved at least as much as the plants.  And now it's already back to cold weather and things are barely growing anymore.  It's sad to see the season ending and the gardens empty and bare.  Literally, the only crops left in the field are carrots, potatoes, leek, celery, kale, chard, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and a few fall broccoli and cauliflower and maybe some corn that will still fill out enough to harvest.  This is when the season gets boring.

We have been supplementing your baskets with crops from other organic growers in our area.  My cousin (Mans Organics) has been supplying the delicious watermelon and cantaloupe this year (and this winter they will provide us with winter squash).  A family friend and the kids school teacher (Busy Bea's ) has been supplying the onions (and will add the potatoes for the winter share).  We appreciate their help to supply you with delicious, local, organic crops in the areas we are short.

So, the season is getting close to it's end for the summer share.  There are 5 deliveries left after this week.

We are finalizing plans for our winter share and hope to have details on that for you by next week (But we do know that it will run from the last week of October to the 3rd week of December - on a weekly delivery).  If you are interested in hosting a winter delivery sight - please let us know!! We need - a heated garage for us to camp out in for a few hours every week....

Stay tuned for winter share information.....and stay warm until the sun comes out again!
