Farming is much more pleasant when the temperatures are below 90. We are grateful for these beautiful fall days. Veggie crew harvested our corn that will continue drying for future cornmeal and popcorn. We didn't get much, but a little bit to enjoy on the farm. On the contrary, we have plenty of fall greens to last all winter long. The kale, collards and spinach are finally ready for your enjoyment. Cooking greens are so lovely because they can be incorporated into just about any dish to add that punch of nutrients and flavor.

In the orchard, we have passed the peak chestnut harvest, meaning each day's yield is smaller and easier to manage. The daily harvest, wash, inspect and pack routine is happening much faster. People are ordering chestnuts from all over the country! A bag of fresh chestnuts makes a great gift, especially since they will last for a few months if stored properly.  We've also still have plenty of ginger and turmeric if you are interested in adding any to your share. We love to use these medicinal roots for cooking and tea. Here is a link to a Golden Milk Recipe that uses turmeric and is absolutely delicious.
