Pick up time! Don't forget to grab your produce box this week at your pick up location. The challenge of this week turned out to be having a power outage on our main harvest day. Tuesday is when we harvest a wash a lot of bunches and greens, so having water and a functioning cooler are pretty important...well, it's important any day of the week, but definitely on Tuesdays! The power was out for about 5 1/2 hours, so we pivoted to working on other things that don't need water. We also got our coolers through with a combination of generators and not opening them. All in all, there wasn't a lot of wasted time because we stayed busy, but just having an interruption to our 'regularly scheduled programming' did throw us for a bit of a loop. It just goes to show that we get to be creatures of habit in the summertime, and our days are very regimented - in fact, they have to be to get everything done. So when we need to shuffle tasks and schedules around it feels a bit chaotic.
At any rate, we made it through the outage just fine, and really appreciate the extra help and generator borrowing from our regular Hoot Owl helpers - Rita, Barry & Ruth! We also really appreciate the work done by the electric company and fire fighters who got a handle on the situation and turned the power back on so quickly. We're happy to get through a several hour outage unscathed, but any longer and we would have started to have serious disruptions to our flow and that would have impacted a lot for us. Anyway, just a good reminder think on our feet and be ready to adapt cause things do change in a hurry sometimes!
Cheers, Bonnie & Rudy
