We sure did enjoy the cooler weather this past week, and we'll be holding onto the memory of that brief rain as it looks like temps are set to climb right back up over 100 tomorrow. Our definite MVP of this week turned out to be our back up generator. We've lost power for a few hours twice in the last week and each time we were able to continue business as usual due to the back up system that we installed last year. In previous year, if the power went out on a hot Tuesday morning, we would have had to drastically change our plans for the day. We'd have issued a strict 'no opening the coolers' order to keep all of our harvested produce cool, we'd have to stop harvesting anything that needs to be rinsed because we'd rapidly run out of water if our well pump couldn't run, and finally at least one of us would be running around trying to locate a generator (or generators) capable of running our coolers in case the outage was for a longer time. And finally, once the power was back on, we'd need to find a way to cram in all of the harvesting and packing that we'd delayed on before deliveries the next day! We were OH SO GLAD that our generator kicked right on and we were able to wash/pack/and cool away uninterrupted!
It's time to head over to your pick up location this week to grab your produce box. Remember that we've also got 'Open Farm Fridays' going on 2-5 Friday afternoon. It's a great time to see where your food is grown, and right now you can pick (or pick up) your own bouquet - we've got beautiful sunflowers and gladiolus blooming, and dahlias are not far behind.
We look forward to seeing you at pick up!
Cheers, Bonnie & Rudy
