Oct 9th Happening

Posted on October 9th, 2020 by Melinda Hollyfield

This has been an exciting week, as sweet potatoes and winter squash are making their way from the fields to a comfortable place to cure for the next couple of weeks. During the curing process, the vegetables sugar production ramps up, so they get sweeter and yummier. We are also thrilled about our freshly harvested ginger and turmeric. We're throwing in a little ginger into our veggie boxes this week, but know it can also be purchased as an add-on to your CSA share. Nothing says winter is coming like these nutritious tubers!

And of course, October brings fresh chestnuts. Our crew is harvesting about 100 lbs per day, so they are really accumulating. We've found a few simple and delicious ways to roast them, and with your order we will throw in a little instructions card with cook tips.

We've officially filled our beef shelves with product that was bred, born and raised on our farm. We are proud and excited to share that meat with you this month. We'll continue cleaning out the freezer, as fall and winter is when we process all of our meat that will feed both our upcoming Winter & Summer CSAs. So much goodness coming your way - we love sharing the bounty with you!

What's in the box:

Italian Greens
Baby Greens
Peppers
Lettuce
Carrots
Ginger
Peppers
Herb
Bunching Onions

*The harvest list is always tentative. The garden decides what's in the box.

Special note about extras: Harvie will only allow you to order extras if you have a meat CSA share. I will take extra orders for Veggie CSA members if you reply to this email, and if inventory allows.
