Farm Happenings December 18th

Posted on December 17th, 2020 by Melinda Hollyfield

Where has the time gone!? The earlier sunsets serve as a reminder that the winter solstice- the shortest day of the year- is just days away. The bright news? We'll get a little more sunlight as we move through winter into spring. This is good news because we just planted more turnips, arugula, spinach and lettuce in the greenhouse.  By planting in successions we can ensure that as one row of plants peters out, we have more in the wings that will keep us all fed throughout the season. Our cooler is currently packed with an astonishing amount of root crops such as beets, turnips and radishes, which we will be sending you all winter long. Some might argue that summer vegetables are the pinnacle of garden food, but I strongly disagree. Cooked greens, fresh salads, warming soups and roasted root veggies are where it's at. Especially while we are spending more time indoors and working to keep our immune systems strong. We hope you enjoy next week's bounty!

Holiday schedule note: Our staff will be taking a one week break from CSA during the holidays. This means that our schedule will be one week off when we return in January. Your first delivery of 2021 will be on January 12th. You can always login to your Harvie account and select Deliveries at the top to see all future delivery dates.
