You know what time it is, right?! Time to customize your boxes for week #15. So get in there and switch/swap/add to until your veggies next week are just as you'd like them. For extras, don't forget to check out farm fresh eggs from the Miller Farm, honey from Mclaury Apiaries, bread and bagels from the Gracious Table, beautiful bouquets from Dragon's Breath Farm, and our own bulk garlic. It's hard to believe that it's week 15 already, and even harder to believe that there are only 4 weeks left of the CSA season. We will likely have produce a bit beyond the CSA, but it's definitely reduced in quantity and not nearly as assured as during the regular growing season.
What's new this week? We're hoping to get a melon into many of the boxes, a good harvest of green beans and celery, and some more winter squash, as well as all of our standard things. We really don't have a ton of our winter squash harvested yet, so there will be more of that to come soon, as well as onions (harvesting now!) and potatoes. We are still short on our salad mix, we're battling the effects of some very hot spells as well as some pest pressure, so we're hoping (and planning!) to come out of the salad lull for the cooler end of summer/fall.
We are starting to see signs of the summer season nearing it's end. The summer squash is starting to slow down (thank goodness for the pickers!!), the mornings are starting to have a distinct chill to them, and quick crops are starting to take a few more days to reach maturity than their seriously quick summer times. We're expecting a cooler week ahead, so enjoy the reprieve from the heat!
