This week has been one with a lot of activity. The market yesterday was our busiest one yet, and we were very glad of the extra hands from our crew to help customers. All week, the hayfield across from the farm has been getting cut, raked and baled so we've been working to the soothing sounds of old tractors put-put-putting along. Rudy stopped at a record number of stops on his Wednesday wholesale deliveries. Maybe it's the change in the weather, but this past week just seems to have flipped a switch and there's just a lot more going on now.
We're doing our best to keep up with the additional tasks with the true start of summer - irrigation, training, flipping beds (that's what we call it when we pull out an early crop then prepare and plant another), and the increased harvesting as more and more crops come online. We're looking ahead to the start of summer squash season which means multiple pickings and hundreds of pounds a week. We were tempted to put some zucchini in your boxes this week, but as we haven't actually harvested one yet, that seemed a little too risky. So we'll see if this is the week to start that harvest, either way you'll be seeing that option soon!!
It's time to customize your shares for next week's pick up. Be sure to jump over to your profile before the Monday at noon cut off time. While you're tinkering with your box, don't forget to check out the items available from other producers and our own non-produce items, we've got a couple of new items this week as the flower power out at Dragon's Breath Farm is picking up for the season. This week, we’ve got:
- Farm Fresh eggs from the Miller Farm
- Bread and Bagels from The Gracious Table
- Honey from McLaury Apiaries
- Beautiful bouquets and edible flowers to add to your salads from Dragon's Breath Farm
- Our fabulous new Hoot Owl Farm tee-shirts. If you choose to get a shirt, then you can let us know what color and size you'd like at your pick up. We have cream and green available in adult sizes S-3XL, and yellow available in kids S-L, also some yellow adult shirts in sizes S-XL, and some teenie weenie onesies (yellow & grey) for the littlest Hoot Owl supporters!
Cheers, Rudy & Bonnie
