Would you just look at that cute little visitor we had to the farm today! Barry's wife Ruth and new puppy Gracie stopped by to say hi and get some pets. Well, it's been a tough week on the farm mainly because of the heat. It's been so hot in the afternoon's that getting through our to do lists for the whole day have been a struggle, but that's why we keep the freezer stocked with popsicles! We've mainly been focused on getting critical tasks like harvesting and planting done before the temps rise too much, and also paying close attention to irrigation to make sure crops don't have to suffer through the heat AND a drought at the same time. A good chore for afternoons like these is cultivation, the weeds that we stir up with our tools don't stand a chance exposed to the sun and heat and it's something that doesn't require too much thinking -- something that can also be quite difficult when your brain is overheating!
We hope you are all finding ways to stay cool and best case scenario finding ways to enjoy this heat wave (like a large body of water!). We look forward to seeing you at pick up this week. If you're picking up at the market tomorrow, it's a special themed 'Christmas in July' market with Santa in attendance!
Cheers, Rudy & Bonnie
