Well folks, here we are in week #10, which puts us in the second half of the CSA season. We are often able to do Farm Stand boxes for a few weeks after the CSA season ends in late-September, but they are at a lower rate, and it's definitely not something that we want to guarantee with our wildly unpredictable weather in the Fall. But there's plenty more season to come, and plenty more crops and variety still yet to come available!
We're starting to transition into slightly less bed prep and planting (since certain crops no longer have time to come to maturity if planted now), and that is just in the nick of time, as we're also going to be transitioning into the 'mega-harvest season'. This is the time of year, when several crops that are planted out all at once in the Spring come ready all at once now and need to be harvested in one big fell swoop. We're already done with the garlic, but next up is onions (yellow and red), and then potatoes, and then winter squash. Included in this season is also the pretty major jobs associated with cleaning, bagging and getting those crops ready for sale. So while some jobs are decreasing on the farm, it seems like other jobs are more than making up for the void!
Be sure to get into your Harvie profile to customize your box for next week (or to purchase a one-time Farm Stand box), or don't! Some people love the surprise of finding out what they get when they pick up. This week, we have lots of great items from other local producers, including:
- Bagels from The Gracious Table, no breads for a couple of week's as the Gracious Table will be short-staffed
- Farm Fresh Eggs from the Miller Farm
- Honey from McLaury Apiaries
- Fresh Pressed Apple Cider AND Apple Butter, from Farm to Market Store, both of these products are made right here in Libby!
- Locally Raised hot Italian sausage and pork chops from Double N Farms, breakfast sausage is very popular with them so it's no longer available as an add-on to the boxes, but you might check with them at the market if they have any!
- Beautiful gladiolus bouquets from yours truly!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Cheers, Rudy & Bonnie
