Hi All - We've got a quick and dirty farm happening today because our CSA member appreciation event should be going on now. We hope some of you were able to make the trip out to the farm. But those that weren't are just as appreciated!
It's week #17 and that means for some of you this is the LAST pick up week of the season. It sure came fast, but be sure to customize your share to your heart's content this week (or to purchase a one-time Farm Stand box), or don't! Some people love the surprise of finding out what they get when they pick up. This week, we have lots of great items from other local producers, including:
- Bread and Bagels from The Gracious Table
- Note: We will not have eggs available from the Miller Farm for the next two weeks. We're sorry for the inconvenience, but the Millers are out of town on an important trip and won't be able to coordinate eggs for us. They will be back, and any Farm Stand boxes we do after the regular CSA season should be able to have Farm Fresh eggs back on the menu!
- Honey from McLaury Apiaries
- Fresh-pressed apple cider and apple butter, from Farm to Market Store, made right here in Libby!
- Locally Raised Breakfast sausage (delicious!!), Hot Italian sausage (also very tasty!), ground pork sausage and pork chops from Double N Farms
Cheers, Rudy & Bonnie
Pic above is an early morning salad harvesting from this past week. We are still harvesting well over 100lbs of Salad Mix per week, but the yield hasn't been the close to 200lbs that we'd like for our salad demand. These mature heads are ones that were planted in the extreme heat and dryness of summer, and many of them simply died upon transplant or never quite recovered from the initial shock of life outdoors. This salad shortage is a pretty common event for this time of year on the farm because we're growing lettuce in sub-optimal conditions, but the window is getting smaller every year as we employ new tricks and tactics to extend the lettuce season. The good news is that the next successions of salad mix are looking great, so the salad season is far from over!
