Of course we get weird vegetables at our farm (pic above)! Whether it's Rita's weird onions, Zack's enormous zucchini (biggest so far at 5.5 lbs), or Amber's mutant potato, we certainly see our fair share of vegetable variability. We hope it's clear from our farm updates that though our farm display can oftentimes look impressive - we DO make mistakes, we DO have failures, and we DO see some pretty weird crops from time to time. So rest assured that if you see some of the same in your own home gardens, that's to be expected when working with Mother Nature, and wouldn't it be boring if that weren't the case anyway?!
It's week #17 and that's the second to last week of the official CSA season. For many of you, this is your last week picking up - so don't forget to hustle over to your pick up location and grab that last official share. We say 'official' because while the CSA season will be ending next week, we will still have produce for several more weeks. As CSA members, we'll make sure to share with you when and where that produce is available. What's yet to come? We still have potatoes to dig - mainly purple potatoes and fingerlings. We are starting to have 10lb bags of storage onions, but there are lots more yet curing. We will have lots of winter squash to harvest. And we still have our fall storage roots sizing up in the field - lots of carrots and beets yet to come. As always, we'll try to keep the greens coming as long as we can, we're actually still planting crops like lettuce, spinach and arugula inside our tunnels.
It might be a soggy market tomorrow, but we'll be there with good spirits (probably not the liquid kind!) - Looking forward to seeing you at pick up!
Cheers, Rudy & Bonnie
