Hi All - We're looking forward to seeing you at pick up this week! Tomorrow's pick up window is 12-6 and it's a special one because our Stock-Up Sale & Pumpkin-Palooza will be going on. We've been working hard to harvest, plant, pick up and prepare the farm. We hope it will be a great day, because we've already got lots of ideas for making it even more of an event in the future.
This week, we've harvested over 1100lbs of carrots and over 400lbs of beets ON TOP of the regular stuff. We're not through yet, with more harvesting going on tomorrow - we have lots of huge cabbages and pumpkins to grab in the morning to finish up palooza-prep. We did get frost this past week, but not as much as was anticipated. Many crops were outright killed (summer squash, winter squash, any remaining melons), some were damaged but survived (dahlias and outside peppers - these are near a greenhouse and get extra protection), and many are absolutely fine (all of the cold hardy greens and roots). Still, we did quite a bit of prep for the really cold temps that never came - some extra harvesting and a lot of draining and altering irrigation lines. But we've learned that doing some extra work to prevent damage is worth it even when the threat doesn't materialize (in fact, it's uncanny how the threat's seem to only materialize when you forget to prepare isn't it?!).
See you all tomorrow!
Cheers, Rudy & Bonnie
