Farm Stand Week #20 - Order

Posted on October 2nd, 2024 by Bonnie and Rudy Geber

** Because we're having our Stock-Up Sale and Pumpkin-Palooza next Thursday, we'll only have on farm pick up available for this week's produce boxes. Pick up will be Thursday Oct. 3rd, 12-6. Next week we'll be back to our normal pick up times with the Thursday in town pick up being at our pop-up farm stand at the Antler's rather than at the Farmers Market!

Hello there! We're officially outside of the main CSA season, but we've still got LOTS of great produce available. So if you'd like to grab a customizable box for next week, now's the time to do it. Ordering will be open until Monday at noon. If you were a CSA member, be sure to click the cart to fully complete your order (it's a step that CSA folks often skip because they didn't have to worry about it during the season), you'll get a confirmation email after you order.

It's looking like some beautiful Fall weather ahead for the next week, but the threat of frost is there for the next couple of nights so we'll see what happens. Most of our crops in the field now will be fine regardless of a frost, but we do have a sensitive few that are on the chopping block for our first really cold night (dahlias, green beans, field peppers, etc). This past week, we planted our last round of transplants - strawberries, which enabled them to be planted pretty late because we're not hoping for any sort of a harvest until next year. We've also been seeding more cover crops - just today a crimson clover/vetch mix was seeded where our melons grew this year. When we first learned about cover crops, we were told to use 'juicy' covers like crimson clover (which provides a lot of nitrogen for crops following it) to precede a heavy feeding crop like broccoli or cabbage - that's worked out well for us this year, so we'll keep doing it!

We had an excellent day yesterday at the last Farmers Market at Libby - it was a beautiful day and we loved seeing all of our fellow vendors and wonderful customers for a final hurrah. Thank you all who have supported the market and it's growth over these past several years!

Reach out with any questions!

Cheers, Rudy & Bonnie

PS. Don't forget to MARK YOUR CALANDERS -- for October 3rd! We'll be having our Stock Up Sale and Pumpkin-Palooza out at the farm from 12-6 (yes, the hours have expanded!). The main intent here is threefold... 1) to get folks out to visit the farm and see where and how we operate, 2) to sell some produce because the market will have just ended and we're sure to have lots of produce still! A main focus of this produce will be 'keeper' crops that you can load up on and eat throughout the Fall and Winter (hence 'stock up'), and 3) to break into the pumpkin patch - we've barely scratched the surface of our pumpkins and want to offer the opportunity to folks to come out and pick their own pumpkin out of the field (and carry it themselves, of course, lol!), and a bonus 4) to have a good time visiting with our CSA members, customers and friends, we hope it will be a nice day with plenty of good cheer.
