We are hosting a twilight tour this Wednesday, June 26th, from 6:30-8:30pm. This tour is aimed at folks who are currently farming, or who hope to farm in the future. We love hosting educational tours (when we have the time), whether it's a group of elementary students, other farmers, or folks at pizza night, because these are the people who will be making important decisions about land use and environmental stewardship in another few years. Helping them understand the beauty and majesty of creation now, learning to appreciate the amazing interconnectedness of the world around us, leads to a more complete understanding of the impact of our decisions. I explain my job as a farmer as managing the environment of my plants and animals to create a healthy growing space for them, us, and the ecology around us. I also try to convey the intrinsic rewards in this amazing profession, which hopefully leads to them considering a career in farming, because we love the idea of more young, energetic, ecologically minded farmers in the future. I know I’ve shared well when one of my touring students says “wow! Farming is really great! I think I might want to be a farmer when I grow up.”
A few housekeeping things!
If you return your green quart and pint boxes we will reuse them! Also Bechard Family Farms will take their (and only their) egg cartons back to reuse.
It's tomato time! You should expect firm ripe tomatoes from us most of the time. That means the tomatoes you get in your share will need to sit on your counter for a few days until they are soft ripe and yummiest. (If we sent riper tomatoes they would become sauce in your box - none of us want that!) Don't store tomatoes in the fridge - they will stop ripening and will get a mealy texture.
We have started a new delivery option - so if you can't pick up your share at market, but still want it on the weekend, move your box to the Friday delivery option. Those shares will get packed and put in our walk in cooler for the weekend. They will be available to pick up Friday after 5pm to Sunday night.
Thanks for letting us farm for you!
