We've got lots of great spinach, carrots, radishes, cabbages, and other goodies this week. We also have a few value added products, from ferments to elderberry syrup.
This week on the farm we're steaming some beds, which means using our industrial steam generator to heat the soil in greenhouse beds to kill pathogens like sclerotinia (a fungus that sometimes destroyed as much as 50% of our lettuce, ranunculus, and kale crops). We're also planting leeks, spinach, and romaine lettuce, for harvest in February. Even with the warm weather, the growth rate of the veggies is incredibly slow this time of year, due to cool soil and low amounts of sunshine, so this is a good time to get caught up with farm maintenance, compost pile building, continuing education, and planning.
We are starting to have a good sized pile of leaves, but we still have tons of space, so bring them to us, and we'll use them to grow more veggies, flowers, and fruit next year.
