Hi CSA friends! It has been a whirlwind juggling harvest and fall planting this week! We are getting beds prepped for winter spinach and kale, picking tomatoes, seeding beets and the list goes on! Fall is the trickiest time to grow because the crops that like October, don't so much like August and September - but that's when they need to start growing so they will be ready in time! We also have a lot of pest pressure this time of year - the caterpillars are at their heights of populations and the children's book "The Hungry Caterpillar" is no lie! We also have lots of deer and rabbits on the farm that enjoy the tasty irrigated vegetables we are growing as well. We have been using low tunnels covered with insect netting to deter the deer and rabbits and also hoping to keep some of the caterpillars out as well. Look for lots of peppers in your share this week - all the peppers on the farm produce like crazy in September! And Curtis, Sarah and family are in Alaska until Friday - so if you have any questions feel free to text me (Kimby 859-629-5375). Thanks!!
