Farm Happenings for May 30, 2023

Posted on May 26th, 2023 by Kimberly Decker

We've had a great week on the farm, with fantastic weather and great harvests.  CSA volunteers made a huge difference this week, enabling us to keep up with the intense harvest days, while also making progress on longer term projects like transplanting, seeding, weeding, and spreading compost.

The winter cover crops are mature, and so we're knocking them down, crimping them (this is part of how we terminate them), and then dropping compost on top to plant sweet potatoes into.

In other places on the farm, we've been harvesting beets this week to clear out the paths in the tomato house.  We need to get them out in part because we want to have them available for our members, but also because the tomatoes need more airflow, and the beets are impairing this.

CSA members Heather, Shannon, Sharon, Beth, Mandy, and Linda, along with several small helpers, made a huge difference, helping with these harvests, some weeding, and lots of bagging, bunching, washing, and labelling.

If you haven't signed up for your workshare yet this year, here's the link;  https://signup.com/go/OsZdXUO We really love working with you all, and appreciate the impact you have on the farm.

In other news, if you have totes at home, please make sure our delivery drivers can see them, so they can restore our supply; the tote supply is getting low!

Finally, we Millsaps will be on vacation this coming week, leaving Monday morning and returning Friday.  Kimby, Chelsea, Karissa, Madi, and the rest of the crew will have things well in hand, but if you need to reach me, I'll be out of cell range (this is our annual week-long float trip on the Buffalo, a family tradition going on 46 years!).   Please reach out to Kimby if you need assistance with share issues this week, by emailing kimbybea@gmail.com

Thanks,

Farmer Curtis and the whole gang.
